Quiet Rainy Days

 

Most days life is busy with long to-do lists and projects that must get done.  Quiet days with gentle rain can be a nuisance to some, but a reprieve for others.  Today, the quiet and the rain are my reprieve.  It's an excuse to NOT be digging in the dirt, moving rocks, mowing grass, or sweating in the sun.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy all those outside activities; however, I enjoy these days, too.  Time for an extra cup of coffee, writing in journals, composing snail mail letters to grandkids, updating blogs, and listening to nature through opened windows while the temperatures are still cool.  These are the underappreciated days.

Fall is here!

  October 6, 2026 Fall weather is finally here.   This past summer has been a mix of wet, high heat, high humidity, and periods of drought.   Climate change is making for some weird weather here and around the world.   It’s nice to have the windows open and the air-conditioning turned off.   I have a whole house fan which draws in the cool air and forces the hot air out through the attic space.   It’s one of the favorite features of my house.   Lovely sounds of birds, insects, and the occasional rustling of a breeze tickling the wind chimes.   Now, not all the sounds coming in through those open windows are enjoyable, i.e. the motorcycles and mini-bikes running up and down the streets with obnoxious riders oblivious to the noise being created, the rude neighbors that don’t seem to understand no one wants to hear their music, and the endless construction taking place from early morning until dark each day.
