Fall is here!
October 6, 2026
Fall weather is finally here. This past summer has been a mix of wet, high heat, high humidity, and periods of drought. Climate change is making for some weird weather here and around the world.
It’s nice to have the windows open and the air-conditioning turned off. I have a whole house fan which draws in the cool air and forces the hot air out through the attic space. It’s one of the favorite features of my house. Lovely sounds of birds, insects, and the occasional rustling of a breeze tickling the wind chimes. Now, not all the sounds coming in through those open windows are enjoyable, i.e. the motorcycles and mini-bikes running up and down the streets with obnoxious riders oblivious to the noise being created, the rude neighbors that don’t seem to understand no one wants to hear their music, and the endless construction taking place from early morning until dark each day.
I’ve learned to drown out those unpleasant noises by putting in a set of ear buds and playing my own music or turning up my own music inside the house where I can’t hear those things. Occasionally it means getting in my vehicle and going on an errand just to get away, but gas is so expensive now, making each trip questionable.
There are always more projects and little things to be done when you own a house/yard. My to-do lists never seem to get completed. I am learning to let some things go which has been a huge process for me over the years. I’m not as fastidious or particular as I used to be. My house is very rarely cluttered unless I’m working on a sewing and/or crafting project, but other chores in the house and yard go a bit longer getting taken care of. Right now, there are cobwebs, spiderwebs, and some overgrown flowers that need tending. Dusting, vacuuming, and mopping need to be done in the house. All those things must wait until I clear up some much-needed business for the months ahead.
For all of us a bit discouraged by all needing to be done, it’ll be there for us later. Take care of things in order of importance. Daily exercise, preparing/consuming home cooked foods, enjoying a good cup of coffee, paying necessary bills, reading a good book, learning something new, completing a project that is satisfying, and try not to worry unnecessarily. Life is hard. Living is hard. Do the best you can. It’s all we can ask of ourselves.
Would love to hear from others and their ways to get through the hard times.
Thanks for stopping by.
Marie
